 Home.
I remember the moment when I first felt like I knew who I was and who I wanted to be. It was the Summer after my sophomore year of high school, sitting in the baritone saxophone chair of Laurel Music Camp’s first-ever full-time Jazz Band, under the direction of LMC legend John Mastroianni. I had been a painfully awkward, highly volatile ball of energy up to that point, but LMC had given me what it gives everyone: a musical challenge, a nurturing staff, and most importantly, the unequivocal acceptance of everyone around me. From that moment, I knew I wanted to a) make music, b) teach, and c) be a part of Laurel Music Camp for as long as possible. Twenty-five years later, I’m still on that path, and I’m so thankful for the home that LMC has given me.

Fellowship Through Music.
Since 1945, Laurel Music Camp has been engaging high school musicians in an affordable week-long music camp experience in Connecticut. LMC has been committed to building a community through the idea of “Fellowship through Music,” and supporting that community with a positive and nurturing environment. The feeling of home that we all have is echoed again and again from campers, staff, and alumni. It’s a safe space to explore great music and make new friends, in the spirit of that Fellowship. As Uncle Jack says all the time, “Camp is not a place. We are Camp.”

Laurel Music Camp is entirely volunteer-run and our work is enhanced by the support of our past and present camp community… including you!

Consider Supporting LMC.
As part of the LMC family, you know better than anyone the impact of Laurel Music Camp. Perhaps you’ve watched a child gain more confidence, or a student learn new skills. Maybe you’ve even experienced the magic of camp yourself! With your help, we can reach our goal of keeping camp affordable and accessible to all. This Giving Tuesday, please consider supporting our efforts through a tax-deductible donation in any amount - every donation makes a difference!
Your generous, tax-deductible gift will help us in our goal of reaching underrepresented areas of Connecticut, and developing resources that would support campers during their week at LMC - for instance, we’re working to provide transportation options for campers to arrive at camp, and to build an instrument and camping gear supply for campers to use for the week, all while keeping Laurel’s distinction as one of the most affordable Summer programs in Connecticut. Together, we can better support our developing musicians through collaboration, acceptance, and community.

Thanks so much for being part of our family!

In 1945, the overwhelming generosity of Connecticut citizens would combine with the dream of an extraordinary music educator. Elizabeth "Ma" Sonier wanted to give high school students the opportunity to work with a nationally respected conductor in a relaxed setting - without the pressures of homework and outside worries. These students wouldn't just learn music, they would learn what it means to respect themselves as musicians. At the end of that first week, Sonier knew this opportunity must be given to the young musicians of Connecticut year after year.

Laurel Music Camp traditionally has taken place on the scenic grounds of Camp Workcoeman in New Hartford, Connecticut. Please check out our plans for the 2021 season, which will take place at Camp Mattatuck, in Plymouth, Connecticut! With performance opportunities in our Concert Band, Orchestra, Choir and Jazz Band, every camper can explore their natural musical gift, Please navigate our website to learn how you can become a part of Connecticut's oldest summer music tradition!
