What to Expect...

Over the years some of the most memorable thoughts will be of those you shared at Laurel Music Camp.  For some, Laurel is a place they visited for a week out of their summer where they worked on their musicianship and practiced for a concert at the end of the week.  But for others, Laurel Music Camp is a place where one’s individuality and everyone’s level of musicianship is celebrated.  While at LMC, you will find yourself both challenged and supported by fellow campers, conductors and staff, regardless of your level of musicianship.  Each person is welcomed and made to feel like they are a part of something unique, something forever-lasting, similar to the memories that you will surely take with you once you leave the rolling hills of Laurel Music Camp.

Upon arriving at camp, you will find yourself greeted by a great group of staff members who come from various states and several towns throughout Connecticut, each at various stages in their lives and careers.  These unique and diverse group of people volunteer their time and energy to camp for one reason, as they are dedicated to the celebration of fellowship through music, which is the mission of Laurel Music Camp.  Some of these folks may be best of friends while others only get to visit a few times a year.  However, for this one week a year at camp, along with the guest conductors, these individuals work and live as a family to ensure that each camper receives the highest level of musicianship, encouragement, a safe environment to express themselves, an energetic and fun atmosphere, and most importantly an appreciation for life and one another by fostering fellowship through music.

At camp you will both work hard and play hard.  Time is set aside for fun as well as rehearsals and sectionals.  There is always the structured fun like basketball, volleyball, softball and waterfront activities such as swimming, boating and even sun-bathing.  But more so, there are the fun and endless jokes amongst both staff and campers alike. The dining hall antics, stunt night, solos from your peer campers and of course life in your respective camp sites.

Good times will be shared and from time to time you will enjoy the likes of the “Yodeling Cow”, Uncle Jack’s “Points to Ponder”, the Chicken Dance, Reveille Rock, Baden Powell, Baden Powell, Baden Powell, Fun-land, Latrines, shower stalls, endless rocky trails, the traditions, the Boy Scout campfire and stunts, and most undeniably endless laughter and smiles.  These are the just a few of the memories that you will make and activities that you will enjoy during time at Laurel Music Camp all the while enhancing your musicality as you work toward a concert showcasing each ensemble, culminating the week’s festivities.  If you choose to come to Laurel Music Camp and give back to it as it will give to you, then you too, will feel like a part of the Laurel Music Camp family and will celebrate fellowship through music.
